Frequently asked questions

 How can you help?

I help by listening—really listening. My sessions are gentle, informative, and focused on helping you understand why you may be feeling the way you do. Using evidence-based psychotherapeutic tools, I teach practical techniques to reduce anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and relationship issues. My approach is warm, calming, and designed to help you feel better from the very first session.

Where is your counselling practice located?

My counselling room is based in Barnet, North London, within walking distance of New Barnet Overground station and accessible from Cockfosters and surrounding areas. Free parking is available outside the property.

Do you offer online counselling as well as in-person sessions?

Yes. I offer both in-person counselling in Barnet and online counselling across the UK, depending on what feels most suitable for you.

How do I book a session?

You can email me at hello@giovannapumacounselling.co.uk or text 07498 717297. If I’m in a session and can’t answer a call, I’ll get back to you the same day. Once I hear from you, I’ll offer a free 10–20 minute introductory phone call. This gives you space to ask questions, talk about what you need support with, and arrange our first session.

How long are the sessions?

Each session lasts around 60 minutes.

 Do you work with couples?

Yes. I help couples repair and strengthen their relationships, supporting them through challenges such as infidelity, communication difficulties, and intimacy issues. I also work with individuals in new relationships who want to build healthy foundations and avoid repeating past patterns. I have hundreds of hours of counselling experience with both individuals and couples.

What can I expect from our first session?

Every person is different, so I let your emotional needs guide me. I’ll listen to what’s going on in your life, what you’d like to change, and gently ask clarifying questions to help you understand your feelings more clearly. Many people feel nervous before starting therapy—there’s no need - my approach is really calming, gentle, and positive.  I aim to help you feel better from the very first session.

What times do you work?

I work Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6.30 pm, with my last appointment at 5.30 pm. Evening sessions are also available—feel free to get in touch to check availability.

How much are your sessions, and what’s the easiest way to pay?

Individuals: £65 per hour, Couples: £100 per hour. Payment can be made by card or bank transfer after your session. Cancellations are free up to 24 hours in advance.

Are you registered with any medical insurance companies?

Yes. I’m registered with Aviva and Vitality health insurance.

What times do you work?

I work Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6.30 pm, with my last appointment at 5.30 pm. Evening sessions are also available—feel free to get in touch to check availability.

How long do I need to see you?

I aim to help you feel better as quickly as possible—often in fewer sessions than people expect.

Do you support individuals with ADHD?

Many of my clients have ADHD or autism, and I also support individuals living with physical conditions such as cerebral palsy, those undergoing cancer treatment, or experiencing vision or hearing loss.

Is there anything else I should know?

I have a therapy cat named Mimosa who may occasionally wander into the therapy room and sit quietly by your feet. She’s very gentle and will never jump up or try to sit on your lap. Mimosa only comes into the therapy room if she senses you're an animal lover. If you're allergic to cats or prefer not to have one around, just let me know — I’ll keep the therapy room door closed.
